Description
A cozy and flavorful one-pot Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo made with tender pasta, savory sausage, fresh broccoli, garlic, and Parmesan. Ready in under 30 minutes and perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
1 lb chicken sausage, sliced
2 cups broccoli florets
1 ½ cups orzo pasta
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped
4 cups chicken broth
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
In a large skillet, cook the sliced chicken sausage until browned. Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the garlic and onion until fragrant.
Add the broccoli florets and cook until slightly tender.
Stir in the orzo pasta and chicken broth; bring to a simmer.
Cover and cook for 10–12 minutes, or until the orzo is tender.
Return the cooked chicken sausage to the skillet and mix well.
Stir in Parmesan cheese and season with salt and pepper. Serve warm.
Notes
Add a splash of broth if the orzo thickens too much while cooling.
For extra creaminess, stir in 1–2 tablespoons of butter before serving.
Whole-wheat orzo works but may require slightly longer cooking.
Add red pepper flakes for spice or spinach during the last 2 minutes for extra greens.
