Description
These Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies are soft, chewy, and perfectly festive with red and green sprinkles. Made with cake mix, cream cheese, and butter, they’re the easiest holiday cookies you’ll ever bake — rich, gooey, and irresistible. Perfect for cookie exchanges, Christmas parties, or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
-
8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
-
1 large egg
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1 (15.25-ounce) box yellow cake mix
-
1/2 cup holiday sprinkles (red and green)
-
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
-
Preheat oven: Preheat to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
-
Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, beat cream cheese, butter, egg, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
-
Add cake mix: Stir in the yellow cake mix until a thick dough forms.
-
Add sprinkles: Gently fold in the holiday sprinkles — don’t overmix.
-
Chill dough: Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
-
Form cookies: Scoop 1½-inch dough balls and roll them in powdered sugar until fully coated.
-
Bake: Arrange cookies 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are soft.
-
Cool: Let cookies rest on the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chill time helps prevent cookies from spreading and keeps them gooey inside.
For variety, swap yellow cake mix with white or red velvet for a festive twist.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days or freeze up to 3 months.
Add extra powdered sugar before serving for a “snowy” holiday look.
