Description

This Christmas Sprinkle Buttermilk Bread is a soft, buttery, and festive quick bread filled with red and green sprinkles. It’s the perfect holiday bake for breakfast, gifting, or cozy family gatherings — simple to make, beautiful to serve, and full of Christmas cheer!

Ingredients

Scale

Yields 1 standard loaf (approx. 8 servings):

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (210g)

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk (240ml)

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ½ cup red and green sprinkles (jimmies style; avoid nonpareils)

Optional topping:

  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar

  • Extra sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Mix wet ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk.

  4. Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix.

  5. Add sprinkles: Gently fold in red and green sprinkles, being careful not to overmix so the colors don’t bleed.

  6. Bake: Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Top with coarse sugar or extra sprinkles. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Cool and serve: Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice once completely cooled.

Notes

Use jimmies-style sprinkles to keep colors bright and prevent bleeding.
To make your own buttermilk substitute, mix 1 cup milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice and let sit for 5 minutes.
This bread freezes well for up to 3 months. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and thaw at room temperature before serving.
Add-ins like white chocolate chips or cranberries make a fun twist!
