Description

Slow Cooker BBQ Beef Brisket is a tender, smoky, and saucy comfort food dinner that cooks low and slow with very little hands-on work. This easy brisket recipe is perfect for busy weeknights, family dinners, or casual gatherings when you want big barbecue flavor without the stress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 to 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the thyme, paprika, black pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin.
  2. Rub the spice mixture all over the top of the brisket.
  3. Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of a large 7-quart slow cooker.
  4. Place the seasoned brisket into the slow cooker.
  5. Pour the liquid smoke and Worcestershire sauce over the brisket.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, until the brisket is tender.
  7. Carefully remove the brisket to a large platter.
  8. Remove and discard the fat from the bottom of the brisket.
  9. Shred the brisket with two forks.
  10. Return the shredded brisket to the slow cooker.
  11. Pour the barbecue sauce over the brisket and gently stir to coat.
  12. Cover and cook for 30 minutes more, or until the sauce is heated through.
  13. Serve warm.

Notes

  • A 7-quart slow cooker works best for this recipe.
  • Trim excess fat after cooking for easier shredding and better texture.
  • Use your favorite barbecue sauce to adjust the sweetness, smokiness, or spice level.
  • Leftovers store well and are great for sandwiches, baked potatoes, sliders, or tacos.
  • Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the size and thickness of the brisket.
