Description

This Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken is sweet, savory, sticky, and totally weeknight-friendly. Toss everything in, let it cook, and dinner basically handles itself.


Ingredients

For the chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or chicken breasts

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the sauce

  • 1/3 cup honey

  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup ketchup

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

To thicken (optional)

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp water

Garnish (optional)

  • Sesame seeds

  • Chopped green onions


Instructions

  1. Season chicken on both sides with salt and pepper.

  2. In a bowl, whisk honey, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, ginger (if using), vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using).

  3. Place chicken in the slow cooker and pour sauce over the top.

  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or on HIGH for 2–3 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.

  5. Optional thick sauce: Remove chicken. Pour sauce into a saucepan. Mix cornstarch + water, stir it in, and simmer 2–3 minutes until thick.

  6. Pour thickened sauce over chicken (or return chicken to the slow cooker). Top with sesame seeds and green onions, then serve.

Notes

Chicken thighs stay extra juicy, but breasts work too—just don’t overcook.

Want it spicy? Add extra red pepper flakes.

No rice vinegar? Apple cider vinegar is perfect.

Leftovers keep well and taste even better the next day.

Great served over rice, noodles, or with broccoli.
