Slow Cooker Smothered Steak

Description

This Slow Cooker Smothered Steak is the ultimate comfort food—tender sirloin smothered in savory mushroom gravy with onions and peppers, slow-cooked to perfection. Serve it over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles for a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs sirloin steak (well-marbled)

  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp flour

  • 2 envelopes brown gravy mix, divided

  • 1 ½ cups water

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp steak seasoning

Instructions

  1. Season steak with smoked paprika, onion powder, and steak seasoning.

  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear steak on both sides (do not fully cook). Transfer to slow cooker.

  3. In the same skillet, melt butter. Add onions and bell peppers; sauté until softened and browned. Stir in garlic and flour; cook for 1 minute.

  4. Transfer veggie mixture to the slow cooker on top of the steak.

  5. In a bowl, whisk together 1 envelope gravy mix, water, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Pour over steak and veggies.

  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 hours or HIGH for 4 hours until steak is fork-tender.

  7. Remove steak, whisk in second gravy packet, and cook on HIGH for a few minutes to thicken sauce. Return steak to soak in gravy before serving.

Notes

Don’t skip searing the steak—it locks in flavor.
For extra creaminess, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end.
Delicious served over mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered egg noodles.
Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for 2 months.
