Description
This Tater Tot Casserole with Ground Beef is a cozy, family-favorite dinner made with seasoned beef, creamy sauce, melty cheese, and crispy tater tots. Easy, comforting, and perfect for busy weeknights.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup sour cream
1 small onion, diced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or favorite seasoning
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with diced onion until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices. Drain excess fat.
Stir in cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. Cook 2–3 minutes until heated through.
Spread the beef mixture evenly in a greased casserole dish.
Sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, until tater tots are golden and crispy.
Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top and bake 5 more minutes until melted.
Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra crispy tater tots, bake an additional 5 minutes before adding the final cheese layer.
Swap cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken if preferred.
Great for make-ahead meals and leftovers reheat well in the oven or air fryer.
